sometimes i think i'll go seek my love

8.Lass of Glenshee
one morning in springtime, as day was a downing
bright phoebus had risen, from over the sea
i spied a fair maiden, as homeward she wondered
from herding her flocks on the hills of glenshee
i shood in amazement, says i, pretty fair maid
if you were come down to St johnston with me
there's ne'er been a lady, set foot in my castle
there's ne'er been a lady, dressed grander than thee
a coach and six horses, to go at your bidding
and all they that speak, shall say ma'am unto thee
fine servants to serve you, and go at your bidding
i'll make you my bride now, sweet lass of glenshee
oh want do i care for your gay conjury
i'd rather be home with my cot and my spinning
or herding my flocks on the hills of glenshee
away with such nonsense and get all beside me
e'er summer comes down, my sweet bride you wil be
and there in my arms, i will gently caress thee
twans then she consented, i took her with me
seven years have rolled down since we were united
thers's many change, but there's no change on me
and my love she's as fair as that bloom on the mountain
when i plucked me a wild rose on the hills of glenshee

10.Carrickfergus
i wish i was in carrickfergus
only for nights in ballygrant
i would swim over the deepest ocean
the deepest ocean for my love to find
but the sea is wide and i cannot cross over
and neither have i the wings to fly
i wish i could meet a handsome boatsman
to ferry me over, to my love and die
my childhood days bring back sad reflections
of happy times i spend long ago
my boyhood friends and my own relations
have all passed on like melting snow
but i'll spend my day in endless roaming
soft is the grass, my bed is free
ah, to be back now in carrickfergus
oh that long road down to the sea
but in kilkenny, it is reported
on marble stones there as black as ink
with gold and silver i would support her
but i'll sing no more till i get a drink
for i'm drunk today, and i'm seldom sober
a handsome rover from town to town
ah, but i'm sick now, my day numbered
come all long road down to the sea
11.Lakes of Pontchartrain
twas on one bright march morning i bid new orleans adieu
and i took the road to jackson town, my fortune to renew
i caurse foreign money, no credit could i again
which filled my heart with longing for the lakes of pontchartrain
i stepped on board a railroad car, beneath the morning sun
and i rode the loads till evening, and i laid me down again
all stangers there mo friends to me, till a dark girl townards me came
and i fell in love with a greole girl. by the lakes of pontachartrain
i said "my pretty creole girl, my money here's no good,
if it weren't for the alligators, i'd sleep out in the wood"
"you're welcome here kind stranger, out, house is very plain
but we never turned a stranger out, from the banks of
pontchartrain"
she took me in to her mammy's house, and trated me right well
the hair upon her shoulders in jet black ringlets fell
to try and paint her beauty, i'm sure twould be in vain
so handsome was my creole girl, by the lakes of pontchartrain
i asked her if sh'ed marry me, she said that ne'er could be
for she had got and he was far at sea
she said that she would wait for him and true she would ramain
till he returned for his creole girl, on the banks of pontchartrain
it's fare thee well my bonnie old girl, i never may see you more
but i'll ne'er forget your kindness in the cottage by the shore
and at each social gathering a flowing glass i'll drain
and i'll drink a health to the creole girl, by the lakes of pontchartrain
12.The spotted Cow
one morning in the month of june
as from my cot i strayed
just at the dawning of the day
i met with a charming maid
good morning to you, wither? said i
good morning to you now
the madi replied kind sir, she cried
i've lost my spotted cow
no longer weep, no longer mourn
your cow's not lost my dear
i saw her down in yonder grove
come love and i'll show you where
i must confess, you're very kind
i thank you sir, said she
we will be sure her ther to find
come sweetheart and go with me
and in the grove they spent the day
they thought it passed too soon
at night they homeward bent their way
while brightly shone the moon
if he should cross the flowery dale
or go to view the plough
she come and calls you gentle swain
i've lost my spotted cow
14.Down by the Glenside
twas down by the glenside, i met and old woman
she was picking young nettles and she scarce saw me coming
i listened a while to the song she was humming
gloy o, gloy o, to the bold fenian men
tis fifty long years since i saw the moon beaming
on strong many forms and their eyes with hope gleaming
i see them again, sure, in all my daydreaming
glory o, glory o, to the bold fenian men
some died on the gleside, some died near a stranger
and wise men have told us that their cause was a failure
they fought for old ireland and they never feared danger
glory o, glory o, to the bold fenian men
i passed on the my way, god be praised that i met her
be life long or short, sure i'll never forget her
we may have brave men, but we'll never have better
glory o, glory o, to the bold fenian men
